There’s something beautifully blissful about Lucky Star’s new “Eternal” EP. All of the featured tracks have been on his Soundcloud for months, and after having listened to them multiple times, it becomes easy to pick out the added touches that separate the demos from the final product, which in turn reveals what kind of perfectionist we’re dealing with.
After having been interviewed and featured in The Frontliner’s Producer’s Corner, it’s no secret that this guy’s standard for production is as high as it needs to be for his career to go places, and his debut release well end up being a piece of the resume that makes that happen.
As has always been the case with Lucky Star’s music, the “Eternal” EP shines based on it’s unique sound design choices and abundance of musicality. A lethal combination, to say the least. In fact, it’s the most effective combination for getting noticed in a scene were you wouldn’t know whether a new track was made by producer X or DJ Z. The result is a coherent collection of tracks that offer up the kind of diverse sounds that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere. From funky stabs of the EP’s title track to the guitar breakdown of “Sky High”, the music is littered with unexpected treats. But thankfully, it doesn’t thrive off ear-candy moment alone. The selling point on this EP is the choice of chord progressions, as well as the raw, upfront polysynths that play them, which provides a solid foundation for other sounds to weave in and out. Said sounds could be anything from the vocal chops on “Wolf” to the growl bass one shots on “Eternal“.
After having had fans waiting for months after the expected release date, Lucky Star hits the bullseye with this 3-track release, which ensures that all is forgiven. Hopefully, “Eternal” will take Lucky Star from his current underhyped status to a more regular name within certain circles.
